YOLANDA PUTMAN
Yolanda D. Putman is an educator and accomplished writer whose passion for teaching and journalism has shaped her career. Since 2020 after completing the Project Inspire Residency Program, she has been a teacher at The Howard School in Chattanooga, TN, where she has taught journalism, creative writing, and 10th and 12th grade English.
Yolanda’s journey in journalism began in 1999, where she served as a staff writer for The Chattanooga Times Free Press for nearly two decades until 2018. Her storytelling and insightful reporting have left a lasting impact on readers on the community. She has been recognized by the Associated Press for feature writing and received awards from the Chattanooga Human Rights Human Relations Commision and the Unity Group for journalism.
In her early career, Yolanda demonstrated her writing talent as a columnist and reporter for The Lima News in Lima, Ohio, from 1995 to July 1999, showcasing her commitment to storytelling and community engagement.
Yolanda’s dedication to education is further exemplified by her academic achievements.
In 2020, she earned a Masters in Teaching from Lee University. Additionally, she holds a Masters in Communication from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and a Bachelors in Journalism from Alabama State University. Beyond her professional pursuits, Yolanda is mom to her 18-year-old son, Tyreese Morris.
Yolanda Putman’s journey as an educator, writer, and mother reflects her commitment to excellence in all aspects of her life. Her goal is to leave a legacy of learning and storytelling that informs minds, ignites hearts, and inspires the world.
